Attachments & Aversions

The autobiography of the originator of releasing, Lester Levenson, is called ’No Attachments, No Aversions - The Autobiography of a Master’.

So what are attachments and aversions?

They are what we want to keep close and what we want to keep away. What we are grasping for and what we are trying to push away. We are basically saying - ‘to be happy I must have that, and to be happy I must avoid that.’

The one who has no attachments, no aversions is, in many spiritual traditions, called a Master, because that person is free. No matter what happens such a person will not be touched. He or she is free from Maya, the allure of the world. His or her happiness is unconditional. And nothing can touch it.

That does not mean that such a person does not wish for anything.

A free being can still dream, can still create.

In fact, the ability to dream, to create, is immensely bigger than that of the person with attachments and aversions. Why? Having an attachment is basically a statement that you do not have the thing you wish for.

‘I do not have this and I really want it!. So it is an affirmation of a lack!

And that will mostly be what you will get, what you will experience. You will have a life of lack.

Having an aversion is the same in reverse.

‘This thing is there, or it is happening, now or constantly - and I really want for it to go away!’. So again, it is an affirmation of that which you don’t want!

‘Live in the end’, said the Mystic Neville Goddard. Feel as if you already have that which you long for, and then the world will provide that.

Doing this becomes so much easier when you let go of your attachments and aversions. The ability to manifest and create truly becomes available.

The attachments and aversions keep us in the perpetual dance of pleasure and pain, an everlasting merry-go-round of being a slave to our emotions and our world.

Only the person who goes beyond the attachments and aversions can really be free. Only that person can truly be happy. How is this done? One way is through releasing - freeing the Self one step at a time from all that which seems to bind.
